TALK | Pissarro: Father of Impressionism | Lucrezia Walker

Pissarro Boulevard Montmartre at Night

Camille Pissarro, The Boulevard Montmartre at Night, 1898.  National Gallery, London.

Camille Pissarro (1830–1903) is one of the most celebrated artists of 19th-century France and a central figure in Impressionism. Considered a father-figure to many in the movement, his work was enormously influential for many artists, including Claude Monet and Paul Cézanne.

Join art historian and lecturer Lucrezia Walker to discover more about Pissarro in this introduction to Oxford’s Ashmolean Museum’s current exhibition Pissarro: Father of Impressionism. Revealing fascinating details about Pissarro, his artist-friends and relatives, the exhibition aims to show him as the galvanising force that propelled modern art forward and without whom there would have been no Impressionism.

Proceeds from our ticket sales benefit museums, galleries and other arts-based organisations and projects.
