One of the leading sculptors of all time, Donatello was in the vanguard of artistic production at the beginning of the 15th century in Florence, revolutionising his art and influencing sculptors and painters alike. The Victoria and Albert Museum’s new exhibition Donatello: Sculpting the Renaissance is the last in a series of three distinct but complementary presentations, forming part of a collaborative project with the Fondazione Palazzo Strozzi and the Musei del Bargello in Florence, and the Staatliche Museen zu Berlin.
Peta Motture is this exhibition’s lead curator and former Senior Curator of Sculpture at the V&A. Her talk introduces us to the exhibition, exploring Donatello's innovations, collaborations and inspirations within the artistic and cultural context of the quattrocento, also touching briefly on the impact of his sculpture on future generations in the 16th and the 19th to early 20th centuries.
Proceeds from our ticket sales benefit museums, galleries and other arts-based organisations and projects.
